Who let the growlers decline?

Growling Grass FrogToday’s Age reports on the decline of Melbourne’s endangered Growling Grass Frog. The article documents work by QAECO researchers Geoff Heard, Kirsten Parris, Michael McCarthy and Claire Keely. Geoff and colleagues have revealed a 29% decline in “growler” populations across northern Melbourne over the last decade. A worrying trend indeed. But all is not lost! Metapopulation modelling indicates that we can avoid the decline with appropriate wetland protection and creation. More on that soon, so stay tuned…
