August undertook their PhD describing the biogeographic patterns of terrestrial Fungi in Australia. He is interested in the use of species distribution model-based methods for studying biogeography, particularly for discovering biogeographic regions and their boundaries. He is also interested in exploring the best uses of citizen science data and soil environmental DNA data in studies of biogeography, as these are increasingly important sources of biodiversity information for understudied taxa like Fungi.
