Research Fellow

University of Melbourne

Mark begun his journey as an ecologist as many do - by putting his hand up for any opportunity that came his way to go bush and spend time in the field. Whilst his interest in rolling up the sleeves to set traps and survey animals has never waned, over time he became increasingly enamoured with the approaches quantitative ecologists use to turn that hard-fought field data into management-relevant insights. Mark has worn many hats over the past decade, including work with NGO’s, the NSW state government and he recently completed his PhD with the University of Melbourne in 2026. Mark has experience working across a broad range of programs, including threatened species monitoring, invasive predator control and fire management. Most recently, Mark has been diving deep into the world of movement ecology, with a strong interest in the diverse array of questions one can ask with telemetry data on hand. Mark joins Qaeco as a Research Fellow working with Dr Bronwyn Hradsky and Dr Natalie Briscoe to deliver an agent-based model for koalas for the NSW state government.
